Weekend getaway

On the way to Reno, NV along I-80W

Truckee, CA (stopover before going to Reno)

Downtown Reno, NV

Old Sacramento, CA

The drive along the Sierra-Nevada

I visited 3 places over these 3 days; i.e. Truckee (a small town located near Lake Tahoe); Reno (in Nevada, famous for its casinos before Las Vegas took over); and Sacramento (the capital of California).

The drive from Berkeley-Truckee-Reno-Sacramento-Berkeley was along I-80 route, passing through Sierra-Nevada.

On the way to Reno (the main destination), we (Bridget and I) stopped by Truckee for dinner in a typical diner, where I had chocolate shake full of whip cream and turkey sandwich. This is really a small cowboy town, only 1 main street where some buildings maintained its original architecture dated back in the 1800's (like 'The Truckee Hotel).

The main reason I went to Reno was I volunteered to help out in the election campaign for US. The duty...canvassing (means going from house to house and surveyed about the residents' view about the upcoming election)...In my entire life, I had never been involved with politics, this was my very 1st experience...I knocked on 85 houses under the hot hot Reno sun! It was about 90F and I was in the sun from 1045-345pm! (1 hr lunch break in-between) so you could imagine now that I am more dark then usual!!! I applied so much sun-block lotion and drank so much water! I met many interesting residents here; some were very friendly some were not...but I guessed this is life, where sometimes you will meet good people and sometimes bad people...there is always a balance in every situation that we come across. This experience was an eye-opener for me, and it made me realized that it is a tough job getting people's attention to what you have to say...so I have more respect now for people who are in the sales industry!

Well..besides working under the hot sun, I managed to find time to make full use of my getaway here in Reno, i.e. watching Bill Cosby performing live in the Silver Legacy Hotel. He was a natural comedian and he was so hilarious! It was very entertaining and the best part was he interacted with the crowds, which made it more interesting altogether. And the crowds joked along with him!

On the way back from Reno, we stopped by Sacramento, the capitol of California. We walked around Old Sacramento and I was impressed with the 'cowboy' architecture of the town, still well-preserved until now!

This trip was definitely a fulfilling one, visited so many places within such a short time, volunteering for the election campaign which I never thought I would be involved in (helping me to understand the american culture better) and enjoying the road trip along the Sierra-Nevada!
