Cabin where we stayed
My brother decided to go up to a remote area up in Twain, CA for a hideout, away from the hustle bustle of the city life. We booked a cabin called the Pine Aire Motel Resort which is located inside the Plumas National Forest. The only telephone line available was Verizon...so my AT&T network couldn't work there...so no internet, no telephone, just pure nature and silence from the normal life...The drive there was beautiful, surrounded by pine trees when we enter the national forest. Once we reached the cabin, we explored the place and our cabin was just right beside the river. One drawback was there was the railway track there as well...so at certain hours, the sound of the train drained away the sound of nature! But nevertheless, we can hear birds chirping and many kind of insects flying around, even in our cabin itself...welcome to real nature :-) and of course the clear night sky!
My brother decided to try his fishing skill for the 1st time...One thing I learnt from fishing is...you must have enormous patience!!! I was there accompanying him fishing for about 2 hours under the hot burning evening sun and suddenly he shouted 'di chi, I caught a fish, help me!' I was excited of course...it was a huge fish indeed but finally the fish escaped caused the reel was not strong enough to pull the fish up...It was a great experience for both of us...sometimes what matters are the things we experienced in life...After that, he went fishing for almost 4 hours everyday, and finally he concluded that fishing won't be his hobby for the time being :-)
We decided to take a drive up to Lassen Volcanic National Park, about 1.5hours drive from our cabin...and the view was spectacular...We didn't expect to see snow at the national park, and of course our attire....were summer clothes! And surprisingly, the volcano is still an active one, where I can see active sulphur at the Sulphur Ridge Point...pretty amazing, and smoke coming out from small craters...We drove around the park, stopping and mesmerized by the beautiful snow mountain!
After that, we headed back and drove to a small town nearby for lunch in Quincy. It is a very small town but they have 'Safeway' there :-) So we went to buy some stuffs there and ate at a local sandwich place. Simple life, quiet town in the country area....Nice and serene....peaceful...
The trip was a good one indeed..On the day we left for home was also the day my brother has to go back to Singapore. I was sad that he was leaving but I was happy that I had been able to spend quality time with him after all these years. We all had grown up over the years and have our own life....so it was nice to be able to share these few days with him. I enjoyed his company and his bugging me to cook for him :-)
