Turkey combo
I had my 1st thanksgiving experience here in the USA, thanks to the invitation of my hostsister to join her and her family for this festive event. This is one of the real American culture that I had the opportunity to experience and it was indeed an eye opening event for me.
Thanksgiving = LOTSA LOTSA FOOD!!! The main dish was the roasted turkey, seasoned and roasted for 3.5 hours! There was the starter, salad, then the turkey combo plate (with turkey meat, mash potatoes, the stuffing) and dessert (apple pie, pumpkin pie, cherry pie, carrot cake - I had all of them!) It was really a buffet!!! By the time I stuffed myself to all these food, I was so so sleepy! I don't think the myth of eating turkey meat can make you sleepy but the combination of all the food that was taken. And of course in the midst of enjoying the delicious and heartening meal, all of us managed to entertain each other with updated news of one another.
Festive season brings family and friends together, from various generation. There was three generation during this gathering and regardless of the age differences, all of us managed to have a good time interacting with one another. This is the time when all of us make a point to travel and take a break from the normal routine to meet up with close family and friends. I still miss the festive season back home (i.e. during Chinese New Year), where my family would go back to my grandparents place, have a meal at the big dining table, and after that we just sit down in the living room, chatting with each other. This is the time when you realized how important family are and to cherish these special moments together.....
OK, back to the thanksgiving lunch...well...as all of us would have guessed, we had turkey meat for the next 2 days!!! The verdict for me... NO MORE TURKEY MEAT for a long long time!!! :) The turkey was 21 pound! It was definitely a big turkey! Well, I really had my good share of eating part of the turkey and all the other leftovers...and this morning, we went for a 1 hr 30 mins hike at the Henry Cowell State Park...trying to shed off those extra pounds I had gained ;)
